PET/CT
PET, Positron Emission Tomography, is a clinically proven imaging technique that assists in the diagnosis and management of many diseases, including cancer. PET allows a physician to examine large areas of the body in a single scanning session producing images of human body functions unobtainable by other imaging techniques such as conventional X-ray, CT or MRI. By uncovering abnormalities that might otherwise go undetected, PET guides physicians to the most appropriate course of cancer treatment.

PET scans are more accurate in detecting the spread of lung cancer and colon cancer than any other imaging method and can detect the presence and spread of disease at an earlier stage. PET scans are also extremely accurate in evaluating lymphoma, melanoma, lung, colon, esophageal cancer and tumors of the head and neck.

RMCC offers patients a powerful diagnostic imaging system with the PET/CT. This oncology-based system combines the benefits of two proven imaging technologies in one imaging session to more accurately diagnose and locate cancers while potentially decreasing the need for multiple tests.

This scan shows the body's physiologic changes, revealing tumors and tissue activity that are not captured by other diagnostic technologies, while simultaneously revealing the structure of the anatomy where the activity is taking place. PET/CT significantly enhances the ability of physicians to diagnose cancer at earlier stages, better defines the stage of the tumor and helps identify the best treatment options.
