RMCC Recognizes World Lung Cancer Day

3 min read

COLORADO – August 2025 – August 1 marks World Lung Cancer Day, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about lung cancer, encouraging early detection and supporting the individuals and families affected by this disease. At Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC), we are committed in solidarity with patients, survivors, and caregivers as we work every day to advance the fight against lung cancer.

Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, impacting both smokers and non-smokers. The often-silent onset means many cases are diagnosed at later stages, when treatment options may be more limited. World Lung Cancer Day is a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding risk factors, recognizing potential symptoms and seeking screening and care early.

“Raising awareness about lung cancer can and does save lives,” said Manojkumar Bupathi, MD, MS, president and medical oncologist at RMCC. “The sooner lung cancer is detected, the greater the chances are for effective treatment and long-term survival. That’s why this day matters—it brings critical attention to a disease that too often hides in plain sight.”

At RMCC, we are proud to offer state-of-the-art lung cancer care across Colorado. Our team includes oncologists who specialize specifically in thoracic (lung) cancers, ensuring patients benefit from in-depth expertise, leading-edge therapies, and personalized treatment plans that address both the medical and emotional aspects of care.

“Lung cancer is not a one-size-fits-all disease,” said Eiko Browning, MD, medical oncologist and hematologist at RMCC. “It can affect anyone, regardless of smoking history. We now have incredibly advanced tools—from molecular testing to immunotherapies—that allow us to tailor treatments in powerful new ways. All those advances are most powerful when people are diagnosed early.”

RMCC is committed to helping Coloradans understand their lung cancer risk, access appropriate screenings, and receive the best possible care. On this World Lung Cancer Day, we join healthcare providers and advocates around the world in urging individuals to learn the signs, talk to their doctors, and support loved ones navigating a lung cancer diagnosis.
