3 min read

COLORADO – August 2025August 18 marks World Breast Cancer Research Day, a global observance dedicated to acknowledging the critical role of scientific research in understanding, preventing, diagnosing, and treating breast cancer. Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC) is proud to recognize the tireless efforts of scientists, medical professionals, and advocates who are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the fight against this disease.

A cornerstone of RMCC's ability to offer leading-edge breast cancer care is its powerful partnership with the Sarah Cannon Cancer Research Institute (SCRI). Sarah Cannon is a globally recognized network that is at the forefront of cancer research and drug development. This collaboration means that RMCC patients have direct access to more clinical trials than any other cancer facility in Colorado.

"Our partnership with Sarah Cannon allows us to bring groundbreaking therapies directly to our patients here in Colorado," said Dr. Gerlinde Tynan, a breast surgical oncologist at RMCC. "This collaboration is vital for 'seeking new answers,' a core value at RMCC. We are deeply committed to ensuring our patients have access to the most innovative and effective treatments available, often before they become widely accessible."

Through SCRI, RMCC patients can benefit from therapies tailored to specific tumor types, genetic mutations, and individual cancer diagnoses. This focus on personalized medicine is revolutionizing cancer treatment, and the partnership ensures RMCC patients are among the first to benefit. Furthermore, RMCC physicians actively serve on executive committees for breast cancer research within Sarah Cannon, demonstrating a deep engagement and leadership in shaping the future of breast cancer treatment.

"This day is about honoring the progress made through research and recognizing that there is still more work to be done," said Dr. Mabel Mardones, a medical oncologist at RMCC. "Our involvement with Sarah Cannon allows us to be at the forefront of this work. We can offer our patients hope through advanced clinical trials that lead to more personalized and effective treatments, ultimately improving their outcomes and quality of life."

RMCC’s collaboration with Sarah Cannon signifies a commitment to continuously striving to bring the most innovative treatments to the community, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care right here at home.
